Welcome to the home page of Joy Flemming.
Hello there.
I am a fine artist, painting original artworks in
Acrylics on Canvas.. When not painting for myself and
galleries, I am teaching others to enjoy this relaxing pastime.
I am a realist with my fine art, so I stick pretty close to the original
subject matter often educating myself, studying and researching the
subject until I have all relevant information before me. This is evident in the
fine detail and life like look of all my paintings. So consequently all my
work takes considerable time and long hours with the brush to complete.
I do dabble and experiment with abstract, surreal art and textures, loving the bold
colours and freedom with the brush making me take time out from the
restrictions and discipline of the fine work.
My students also keep me on my toes with some of the odd things they want
me to teach them to paint. I think they try to "out do" each other hoping to see the
look of horror on my face. Fortunately I have always come through trumps
for them all and it shows in their own artwork. I never let a student walk
out of the studio with a painting that is not original of their own making
or up to a high standard.
During my "decorative art period" during the 1990's my work appeared regularly in
magazines and I had calendars and books published under the alias
of Joy Vagg - one of my publications - "For the Joy of It"
- is pictured here.
I have also been known to paint a few backdrops and props for theatre as
well. If you want it painted, walls, pots, tables, milk cans, murals, or
whatever you can imagine, I can do it.
If you hadn't already guessed by now, I have a love, no make that a passion,
for music and the theatre.
In my younger days I used to "strut the stage" acting,
dancing and singing my heart out, with musical comedy,
theatre, selected piano bars and clubs. I also was given the opportunity of directing
shows.
I have been
classically trained since the tender age of 15 with a three octave
range....unfortunately the tender notes are still to be heard but in a
lower key these days. I love to sing the ballads of the "crooners era" and the
modern singers of today, some early 60's and 70's, along with a little bit of
country, lots and lots of jazz and of course, with some musical comedy
thrown in for good measure.
So where will you find me? Either painting in my studio, teaching,
singing with friends, entertaining diners with my one man band and or just
taking in the everyday beauty that surrounds this scenic area where I
live.
